VLRC tables final report on Class actions
The Victorian Parliament is now considering the Victorian Law Reform Commission report on Litigation Funding and Group proceedings which was tabled in June 2018. The recommendations include costs experts be appointed as Referee to assist the Court assess legal costs and litigation funding fees and for Plaintiff’s to provide costs budgets at the first case management conference. The Commission also recommends the AG propose to the Council of Attorney-Generals that they agree in principle for lawyers to charge contingency fees and to agree to a strategy for such to be implemented.
